Ted Little

Sen. Little has his finger on the pulse of East Alabama. He knows that education and economic development go hand in hand, along with improved road and bridge infrastructure, delivery of quality health care and a proper respect for the environment.

Nor does Sen. Little forget the issues that receive fewer headlines. He is aware of the needs thrust upon East Alabama because of the major enlargement of Ft. Benning and is knowledgeable about decisions made by the Base Realignment and Closing Commission. His involvement with the district has led him to be involved in efforts to salvage the Alexander City State Trooper Post and keep Camp ASCCA and Lyman Ward Military Academy alive, although neither is a state agency.

His passion for the welfare of the district has kept him involved in plans for the Thirteenth St. Extension, which will improve the quality of life and the delivery of health care services for Phenix City residents. He took up the cause of Auburn merchants when Auburn University’s Tiger Card was charging crippling fees, working closely with AU administrators and local business owners to find a compromise. He then sponsored legislation capping interest at 5 percent.

Sen. Little is responsive to the diverse interests in Senate District 27. He understands the economic benefit to Tallapoosa County provided by recreational activities at Lake Martin, as he understands the importance in investing in Auburn University and promoting economic development along I-85 in Lee County. The whole district benefits from all these efforts because of the expansion of jobs.

He also understands the needs of the area’s cities, and the pressures caused by the major build-up at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Ga. The build-up will affect not only Russell County but also all of East Alabama.
