Ted Little

Ted with his two daughters, Mollie and Terre Su, and their horse Mac Ask people what Sen. Ted Little stands for, and they're likely to say "integrity and hard work." In Montgomery politics, that's an achievement to brag about. His years in state politics have given him the experience necessary to be beneficial to the people of East Alabama. He knows the personalities, he knows the issues, and he knows the system.

There's a good reason why Sen. Little has earned the reputation as a "watchdog" for his district and not a "lapdog" for the special interests. In the last four years, Sen. Little has been present for 98 percent of all votes taken in the Senate. That's the best record of any of the 35 state senators, according to Montgomery's Legislative Record Service.

Nearly a third of all bills introduced by Sen. Little in the last four years won passage, including more than 80 percent of local bills for the district. Sen. Little does more than show up and be counted. He's also effective in representing Lee, Russell and Tallapoosa counties.
Lee, Russell and Tallapoosa counties are poised for unprecedented growth, and Ted Little is proud to be a part of this progress.

When Sen. Ted Little was growing up in Andalusia, his mother nurtured his interest in public service. His mother came from a long line of public servants, and Ted learned to listen to his calling. As Ted went into his high school years, he quickly realized that his calling was public service, just as his mother suggested. He ran for student office, and the rest is history.

"I have enough ninth grade civics in me to still believe I am supposed to represent all my constituents in a fair manner and make legislative decisions based upon constituency input and committee and floor debate," he says.
Sen. Little graduated with a bachelor's degree in industrial management from the University of Alabama in 1964 and a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1967. In 1968, Sen. Little moved to Auburn to join Auburn University's School of Business. He is a long-time member and past deacon of the First Baptist Church of Auburn, where he regularly attends Sunday school and worship service.

In 1974, Sen. Little ran for the Alabama State Senate on a platform of fiscal responsibility and accountability, and that has been his trademark throughout his years of service. He has twice received the Meritorious Service Award from the Montgomery Advertiser and Alabama Journal.

Sen. Little has always put his constituents first during his years in the Senate, on many occasions having to take tough stands against bureaucrats or "the establishment" to do what he thought was right.

Sen. Little currently serves on the Senate's Finance & Taxation (Education) Committee; Confirmations Committee; Judiciary Committee; Constitutions, Campaign Finance, Ethics & Elections Committee; Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry Committee; and the Veterans & Military Affairs Committee. He is an elected member of the Legislative Council.

His long service to the state of Alabama has earned Sen. Little a position on the Executive Committee and Governing Board of the Council of State Governments. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference, and has served as chair of the organization, which consists of representatives from 16 Southern states.

Sen. Little is the proud father of two daughters, Mollie and Terre Su. Mollie is a school counselor in South Carolina, and Terre Su is a marketing specialist in Birmingham. Their mother, Jonnie Dee, passed away in 1988.
